About SIOC-CDT
The Sishen Iron Ore Company-Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT) was established in 2006 by Kumba Iron Ore Limited to invest in the development of the communities in which the company operates. The Trust focuses primarily on beneficiary communities adjacent to the Sishen Iron Ore Company’s (SIOC) mining activities in the Northern Cape and Limpopo and has invested significantly in community development projects aimed at ensuring sustainability beyond mining operations.
SIOC-CDT has substantiated its stated intention of “defining ourselves through actions not our words” by investing over R1-billion in socio-economic and community development projects in the beneficiary communities.

Community Development Strategy
We are inclusive and transparent in decision-making and as such we believe in taking our stakeholders along when making critical decisions. In consultation with the beneficiary communities and all stakeholders, it was decided that the focus areas should be education and skills development, enterprise development and social welfare. This is to ensure that all community development projects provide sustainable socio-economic value.
Beneficiary Communities
Our beneficiary communities are located in some of the most underdeveloped regions of South Africa. They range from urban through to rural settlements with vast distances between each location. This creates an opportunity for organisations such as SIOC-CDT to contribute towards sustainable development that will ultimately result in the upliftment of these communities.

Our SMME Portal
Portal is intended for Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) who can participate in procurement and support opportunities in the SIOC-CDT and partner ecosystem. These opportunities are both public and private sector initiatives with national scope.

Corporate Governance
Governance of the Trust is undertaken via well-developed structures and processes that flow from, and to, the Board of Trustees. The Board is responsible for governance of the Trust but has, in line with principles of good corporate governance, delegated some powers to committees which have been mandated to focus on specific areas of the Board’s mandate.
Stakeholder Relations
SIOC-CDT is committed to building healthy and trustworthy relationships. We prioritise stakeholder relations as a primary focus area. Stakeholder relations in SIOC-CDT consists of engagement platforms and dialogue with beneficiary communities which ultimately determines the implementation of projects with identified focus areas.
About Us
SIOC-CDT's primary goal is to implement sustainable socio-economic initiatives through partnering with key stakeholders to ensure that beneficiary communities have sustainable income and are empowered to thrive beyond the lifespan of the mine.
